Sunday 2004-05-23 - Doğubayazıt, Turkey
Border townIt’s not far from Van to Doğubayazıt but we go via a beautiful scenic route with spectacular views and over a high pass (the highest we encounter in Turkey); on the way we make a photo stop near a huge lava field near Soğuksu, encrusted with lichen in many different colors.
Doğubayazıt has a typical border town atmosphere - hard to put into words, but unmistakable.

…is that in the picture at the top? The pictures are chosen randomly from a collection of portraits I gathered on previous trips in Asia. Since I'll be in those areas again, they set the atmosphere nicely.
